Brief Profile
As the Director General of the Pakistan Institute of Education (PIE), Dr. Shahid Soroya leads and manages the national education and research policy and programs for the Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training. He is passionate about enhancing the quality, equity, and relevance of education in Pakistan, and leverages his expertise in education and research to develop and implement innovative and evidence-based initiatives, strategies, and standards. He has over 20 years of experience in the education and research sector, with a proven record of accomplishment of academic leadership, governance, and administration. Before joining PIE in April 2023, he held senior positions at Blackstone School of Law & Business and Lahore Leads University, where he successfully led and supported various academic and institutional initiatives. He has also served as the Director General, Punjab Higher Education Commission (PHEC) where he has developed and headed Community College Program, Indigenous Post-Doctoral Program and Split PhD program, etc. He is also an internationally recognized research scholar, with a PhD in South Asian Studies, a LLB, and a Master’s degree in Library and Information Science. His research primarily focuses on academic integrity, library anxiety, and information needs and seeking behavior, and has published multiple papers and received multiple awards and honors in these fields.
